Florian Favre, pianiste

Né en 1986 à Fribourg, Florian Favre était tout d’abord parti pour devenir un footballeur professionnel. Aujourd’hui il est pianiste, compositeur et leader confirmé, et vient de débuter un deuxième master en pédagogie à la haute école de Lausanne (HEMU).

Après une brève expérience dans le monde du piano classique dès 8 ans, il commence à étudier le jazz au Conservatoire de Fribourg avec Richard Pizzorno. Il sort diplômé en 2007 avec les félicitations du jury. Il entre la même année à la haute école des arts de Berne et étudie avec Andy Scherrer, Bert Joris, Frank Sikora, Patrice Moret, William Evans, Dejan Terzic, Colin Vallon, Andreas Scherrer, et Thierry Lang. Il reçoit son Bachelor en Art ainsi que la bourse Friedelwald en 2010, et poursuit dans la même école avec un Master en composition et théorie auprès de Django Bates et Dieter Amman, master qu’il termine en 2014.

Il est leader du Florian Favre Trio, avec lequel il a enregistré trois albums, mène à bien d’autres projets artistiques comme le groupe Néology (sextet dans lequel il se mue en pianiste-slammeur), ou encore son projet solo. Son éclectisme et son ouverture l’amènent à jouer avec des artistes de renoms issus tant de la scène Jazz que de la scène pop et hip-hop : on y croise à la fois des collaborations avec les New York Voices, Joshua Redman, Scott Robinson, Ann Malcolm et Sandy Patton, mais également avec des musiciens comme Stefan Eicher, Kutti MC, Ella Ronen, Pamela Mendez, Bühne Huber, Fanny Leeb. En tant que compositeur, Il écrit des musiques pour grandes formations de jazz, pour la danse et le théâtre.

Il est récompensé par le « Biberach Jazz Prize » en 2010 en Allemagne, remporte l’International Jazzhaus Competition à Freibourg (Allemagne), est demi-finaliste au Concours de Piano Solo à Montreux en 2013 et rafle tous les prix de la « Bejazz international Competition », en Belgique en 2016. En 2018 il reçoit la bourse de mobilité du canton de Fribourg qui lui permet de séjourner et développer ses projets musicaux à New York et à la Nouvelle-Orléans.

Born in 1986 in Fribourg, Florian Favre was originally destined to become a professional soccer player. Today he is a confirmed pianist, composer and leader, and has just started a second master’s degree in pedagogy at the Haute Ecole de Lausanne (HEMU).
After a brief experience in the world of classical piano at the age of 8, he started to study jazz at the Conservatoire de Fribourg with Richard Pizzorno. He graduated in 2007 with honors. In the same year he entered the Bern University of the Arts and studied with Andy Scherrer, Bert Joris, Frank Sikora, Patrice Moret, William Evans, Dejan Terzic, Colin Vallon, Andreas Scherrer, and Thierry Lang. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree and the Friedelwald Scholarship in 2010, and continued at the same school with a Master’s degree in composition and theory with Django Bates and Dieter Amman, which he completed in 2014.
He is the leader of the Florian Favre Trio, with which he has recorded three albums, and has other artistic projects such as the group Néology (a sextet in which he becomes a pianist-slammer), and his solo project. His eclecticism and openness lead him to play with renowned artists from the jazz, pop and hip-hop scenes: he has collaborated with the New York Voices, Joshua Redman, Scott Robinson, Ann Malcolm and Sandy Patton, as well as with musicians such as Stefan Eicher, Kutti MC, Ella Ronen, Pamela Mendez, Bühne Huber, Fanny Leeb. As a composer, he writes music for large jazz bands, dance and theater.
He was awarded the « Biberach Jazz Prize » in 2010 in Germany, won the International Jazzhaus Competition in Freiburg (Germany), was a semi-finalist at the Solo Piano Competition in Montreux in 2013 and swept all the prizes at the « Bejazz international Competition », in Belgium in 2016. In 2018 he received the mobility grant from the canton of Fribourg which allowed him to stay and develop his musical projects in New York and New Orleans.
